Exactly one year after the Supreme Court’s pivotal decision affirming local government autonomy in Nigeria, over 7 million registered voters in Lagos State will head to the polls on Saturday, July 12, 2025. They’ll elect chairmen, vice-chairmen, and councillors across the state’s 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs.
Politically significant and economically dominant, Lagos, home to President Bola Tinubu and a powerhouse generating ₦1.3 trillion in revenue in 2024, remains a strategic focal point in Nigerian politics. The state, with a population of more than 20 million, also hosts key national infrastructure, including airports, seaports, and corporate headquarters.
As candidates compete for grassroots leadership positions, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) will supervise the voting process, distinct from the federal and state election duties of INEC.
