Aliko Dangote Submits Plans to Build Nigeria’s Largest Seaport in Ogun

Africa and Nigeria’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, is set to expand his industrial footprint with plans to build a deep seaport near his fertilizer and oil refinery plants.

The project aims to boost the Dangote Group’s export capacity and streamline logistics. In a recent interview in Lagos, Dangote revealed that his company submitted formal documentation in late June to begin construction of what he described as “the biggest, deepest port in Nigeria.”

The proposed Atlantic seaport will be located in Olokola, Ogun State—about 100 km from the group’s major facilities in Lagos, according to Bloomberg.

Currently, Dangote exports fertilizer and urea via a private jetty near his refinery. The new port is expected to provide integrated logistics support for his operations and may rival existing infrastructure like the Lekki Deep Sea Port, which opened in 2023.

“It’s not that we want to do everything ourselves,” Dangote said, “but I believe this kind of investment will encourage more entrepreneurs to step in.”
