JUST IN: Burial of Former President Muhammadu Buhari Rescheduled for Tuesday

The burial of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, originally slated for today, has been postponed to Tuesday, July 16, 2025. This adjustment was confirmed by both family sources and government officials, who cited logistical coordination and security considerations as key reasons for the delay.

According to a family representative, the rescheduling allows for better preparation to accommodate dignitaries and international guests, while ensuring that appropriate security arrangements are in place. The burial will take place in Daura, Katsina State—Buhari’s hometown, which holds deep personal and cultural significance.

President Bola Tinubu, former heads of state, and foreign leaders are expected to attend the funeral, underscoring Buhari’s stature both nationally and globally. In honor of his passing, the federal government has declared two days of national mourning, with flags flying at half-mast across the country.

Buhari, who died at 82, will be buried according to Islamic rites at his family residence. Though he had been receiving treatment in London, he returned to Nigeria last month in hopes of recovery.
