JUST IN: Shettima, Gbajabiamila Arrive London to Receive Buhari’s Remains

Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, have landed in London to receive the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday.

They are leading a Nigerian delegation, which includes Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.

President Bola Tinubu had directed both men to lead the team to the UK to accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria for burial.

Buhari died at about 4:30 pm on Sunday in London after a prolonged illness. Though his condition had been reported as stable days earlier, he passed away at age 82.

As a mark of respect, Tinubu ordered national flags to fly at half-staff and extended condolences to Buhari’s family.

The late president, who hailed from Daura, Katsina State, was Nigeria’s military leader from 1984 to 1985. After several failed attempts at the presidency, he emerged victorious in 2015 and served two terms before handing over to Tinubu in 2023.
