FG partners CILSS to boost food, nutrition safety

The Federal Government is intensifying its efforts to improve food and nutrition safety through a strategic partnership with the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS).

This was revealed on Tuesday by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Abdullahi, during a courtesy visit from a CILSS delegation led by Executive Secretary Abdoulaye Mahamadou.

Abdullahi stated that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is actively implementing the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which aims to reform the agricultural sector, modernize farming techniques, and strengthen national food security.

He highlighted several initiatives underway, including the promotion of sustainable farming methods, the cultivation of biofortified crops like zinc-enriched rice, and the adoption of technological innovations such as mechanisation to boost agricultural productivity. Enhancing food production, accessibility, affordability, and availability, he said, remains a key government priority.

The minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to developing resilient food systems that support household nutrition and sustainable livelihoods.
