Nigeria’s oil output soars above OPEC quota

Nigeria’s average daily crude oil production in June 2025 surpassed the quota set by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), marking the second time this year the country has exceeded its assigned limit of 1.5 million barrels per day, first in January and now in June.

Data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) shows that average daily crude output in June reached 1,505,474 barrels, representing 100.4% of Nigeria’s OPEC quota.

When condensates are included, total oil production rose to approximately 1.7 million barrels per day (mbpd), reflecting an improvement compared to previous months. In May, crude production was 1.45 mbpd, with total output (crude plus condensates) at 1.65 mbpd. Production was even lower in March, averaging around 1.60 mbpd.

Commenting on the figures, the NUPRC noted that the lowest and highest daily combined output of crude oil and condensates in June were 1.61 million barrels per day and 1.82 million barrels per day, respectively.
