As discussions intensify over who will secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, the party’s leadership has emphasized that its current focus is on establishing a strong ideological foundation rather than endorsing any particular candidate at this stage.
Despite rising public interest in prominent figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, the ADC’s interim leadership has dismissed what it called “premature agitations,” maintaining that it is not yet time to back any individual.
Interim National Chairman David Mark has repeatedly stated that the new coalition within the ADC does not have a preferred presidential candidate, even as reports suggest Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi are being considered front-runners for the party’s 2027 ticket.
Mark also reassured Nigerians of the party’s commitment to transparency during his tenure. His comments come amid accusations from the ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, who alleged that the interim leadership under Mark was showing bias in favour of Atiku.
