Petroleum tanker explodes in Ibadan after brake failure

A major explosion occurred when a petroleum tanker transporting 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) lost control and crashed at Celica Junction along the new Ife Expressway in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

According to eyewitnesses, the tanker experienced brake failure, collided with a Prado jeep and another vehicle, then overturned and burst into flames.

Thankfully, there were no casualties, though both the Prado and the other vehicle sustained fire damage.

The Oyo State Fire Service confirmed the incident and commended the prompt action of its firefighters, who used a chemical foam compound to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) filling station and surrounding buildings.

Firefighters from the Federal Fire Service also assisted in extinguishing the blaze.
