Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has denied former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, permission to retrieve his international passport for a medical trip to the United Kingdom.
The judge ruled that the medical report submitted in support of the application lacked validity, as it was not signed by its author. However, Justice Nwite disagreed with the prosecution’s claim that the application amounted to an abuse of court process.
Bello’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu (SAN), argued that his client has been hypertensive for over 15 years and supported the request with medical exhibits. Despite this, the court held that the materials provided were not sufficient to justify releasing the passport.
