Doctors Threaten Nationwide Strike as Ultimatum Nears Expiry

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has announced plans to embark on a nationwide strike starting Thursday, July 25, if the Federal Government fails to meet its demands by the July 23 deadline.

NMA President Prof. Bala Audu, disclosed this in an interview, stating that the 21-day ultimatum issued on July 2 was in response to a controversial circular from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission regarding revised allowances for medical and dental officers.

The association insists the circular violates existing agreements and threatens the welfare of health professionals. Prof. Audu emphasized that unless the circular is withdrawn and their concerns addressed, the association is ready to take industrial action to protect Nigeria’s healthcare system and its workforce.
