South African President Fires Education Minister Over Corruption Allegations

President Cyril Ramaphosa has dismissed Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane following allegations of graft and misconduct. The decision comes after the Democratic Alliance (DA), the second-largest party in South Africa’s ruling coalition, accused Nkabane of lying to parliament and making fraudulent board appointments linked to the ANC.

The Presidency confirmed her removal Monday night, noting her repeated absence from parliamentary hearings. The DA, which joined the government after the ANC lost its majority, said the case reflects a wider pattern of corruption under Ramaphosa.

Other ministers are also under scrutiny, including Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane and the recently suspended police minister, who faces serious allegations of collusion with organised crime.
