The Senate will convene a special session on Wednesday to pay tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, reflecting on his legacy and contributions to Nigeria’s development following his recent passing.
This follows last week’s special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session, where President Bola Tinubu praised Buhari for leading with restraint and dignity and bearing the burdens of leadership without complaint.
Buhari, who died on July 13 in London after a prolonged illness, was buried in Daura, Katsina State. He served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, and earlier as military head of state from 1983 to 1985.
No Recommendation On State Creation – Senate
The Senate has also debunked social media claims that it has recommended the creation of new states. Senate President Godswill Akpabio clarified that while over 42 proposals have been received, none has passed through full deliberation or legislative approval. He urged citizens to disregard unofficial reports and await verified communication from the National Assembly.
