US Withdraws from UNESCO, Citing Bias and ‘Divisive’ Agenda

The United States has officially exited the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), with the State Department citing the body’s “anti-Israel bias” and promotion of “divisive globalist agendas” as key reasons.

State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce criticized UNESCO’s recognition of Palestine and focus on sustainability goals, calling them inconsistent with US interests.

While President Trump initiated the withdrawal in 2017, President Biden rejoined in 2023. This latest exit marks the second time in four decades the US has left the organization, following a similar move under President Reagan in the 1980s.
