Nigeria’s Super Falcons pulled off a remarkable 3-2 comeback victory over host nation Morocco in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final on Saturday, securing their historic 10th continental crown.
Seeking revenge for their semi-final loss to Morocco in the previous edition, Coach Justin Madugu’s side showed resilience after falling 2-0 behind in the first half.
Morocco opened the scoring in the 13th minute when tournament top scorer Ghizlane Chebbak capitalized on a loose ball and fired past goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. The hosts doubled their lead in the 28th minute through Mssoudy, who drilled a low shot into the net from the edge of the box.
Despite early pressure from Nigeria, Morocco went into halftime with a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Super Falcons came out of the break with renewed intensity, dominating possession and creating chances. Their persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when Ijamilusi’s cross struck Benzina’s arm, leading to a penalty. Esther Okoronkwo converted confidently to reduce the deficit.
Just eight minutes later, Okoronkwo raced down the right flank, cut inside, and squared the ball to Ijamilusi, who tapped in the equalizer to make it 2-2.
The comeback was complete as Nigeria found a third goal late in the match (details omitted in the original), sealing a dramatic win and reaffirming their dominance in African women’s football.
