Angola Unrest: Death Toll Hits 30 Amid Fuel Price Protests

Angolan President Joao Lourenço has commended security forces for restoring order after violent protests over a fuel price hike left 30 people dead. The unrest, which began as a strike, spiraled into widespread violence across Luanda and other provinces.

Shops and warehouses were looted, vehicles attacked, and over 270 people were injured—10 of them from security forces. Human rights groups, however, have condemned the crackdown, accusing security agents of killing unarmed civilians.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing.
