Benue Assembly Recommends Suspension of Otukpo LG Chairman Over Misconduct

The Benue State House of Assembly has called for the suspension of Otukpo LGA Chairman, Maxwell Ogiri, for six months following allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office.

The recommendation was announced in a statement by Terver Zamber, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.

The decision was made during Friday’s plenary session, led by Speaker Hyacinth Dajoh, after the House Committee on Local Government, Security, and Chieftaincy Affairs presented its report.

According to the report, Chairman Maxwell Ogiri was accused of diverting public funds into a private account and unlawfully shutting down the local legislative chamber.

The Assembly also recommended that the deputy chairman be sworn in immediately to lead the council throughout Ogiri’s six-month suspension.
