The Olubadan-In-Council has unanimously endorsed former Oyo State governor, Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, following the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7, 2025.
Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan and highest-ranking chief in the civil line, is next in line under Ibadan’s unique rotational chieftaincy system. The endorsement took place at the new Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan.
The Balogun of Ibadanland, Tajudeen Ajibola, said Ladoja’s name will be forwarded to Governor Seyi Makinde for official approval and coronation.
Ajibola praised Ladoja’s experience and called for unity, adding, “We expect reconciliation, progress, and continuity of tradition under his reign.”
Born in 1944, Ladoja studied Chemical Engineering in Belgium, worked at Total, and served as Oyo Governor between 2003–2007. He accepted the ceremonial beaded crown in 2024, fulfilling the requirement to ascend the throne.
A formal presentation to the public is expected after the governor’s confirmation.
