Kaduna secures $25.35m Kuwait loan to tackle out-of-school crisis

In a major step toward tackling the issue of out-of-school children, the Federal Government of Nigeria has secured a $25.35 million concessionary loan from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to fund a wide-reaching education initiative in Kaduna State.

This financial agreement, signed on behalf of the Kaduna State Government, is part of a broader $62.8 million blended financing package in collaboration with global development partners. The goal is to expand access to inclusive and quality education, especially in regions most affected by school dropout rates.

Key Features of the Programme

  • Targets vulnerable groups: girls, children with disabilities, and internally displaced persons
  • Aims to enrol over 100,000 children
  • Will construct 102 climate-resilient schools
  • Renovates 170 existing schools and learning centres
  • Trains teachers and enhances learning environments across underserved areas

According to a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Finance, the programme—called Reaching Out-of-School Children—underscores Nigeria’s renewed focus on transparency, accountability, and measurable impact in the education sector.
