Son Heung-min set to join LAFC in record-breaking MLS move

South Korean football icon Son Heung-min is yet to be officially unveiled by Los Angeles FC, but anticipation is already soaring among fans. According to reports from ESPN and The Athletic, Son is poised to sign with LAFC for a record-breaking $26 million transfer fee — the highest in Major League Soccer history.

LAFC has scheduled a press conference for Wednesday at 2 p.m. local time (2100 GMT), widely expected to confirm Son’s arrival.

Following rumors of his arrival at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday, dozens of fans gathered in hopes of catching a glimpse of the star, securing autographs, or snapping photos. Though Son didn’t appear, excitement remained high.

“Son means everything to me. I used to wake up at 5 a.m. just to watch him play in England,” said 19-year-old Jun Kwon, who proudly wore a freshly printed LAFC jersey bearing Son’s name. “He’s going to change the game here. My dad and I never cared about MLS — now we’re hooked.”

Son officially bid farewell to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend in Seoul after a decade-long stint that saw him net 173 goals in 454 appearances. At LAFC, he’ll step into the role vacated by French striker Olivier Giroud, who moved to Lille in July, and reunite with former Spurs teammate Hugo Lloris.
