Tinubu nominates new leadership for NERC

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Engr Abdullahi Garba Ramat to serve as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Alongside Ramat, the President also proposed Mr Abubakar Yusuf for the role of Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services at the commission.

The nominations were announced in a statement issued Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the statement, Engr Ramat, 39, is a seasoned electrical engineer and administrator, holding a PhD in strategic management, among other credentials.

“All nominations are subject to Senate confirmation,” the statement noted.

To prevent a leadership gap at the regulatory body, President Tinubu has directed Engr Ramat to assume office in an acting capacity pending Senate approval, following legal provisions.

The President also called on the appointees to apply their expertise and commitment toward realizing the administration’s goals for the power sector.
