WAEC appeals for calm over portal shutdown

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily shut down its result checker portal due to technical difficulties.

The announcement was made in a public notice shared on the council’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday.

“WAEC hereby informs the general public that the result checker portal @waecdirect.org is temporarily shut down due to technical issues.
However, the council is working assiduously to ensure that candidates are able to access their results in the next 24 hours,” the statement read.

WAEC also appealed to candidates and stakeholders for patience as it works to resolve the issue.

The notice comes shortly after the official release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, which was announced on Monday, August 4, 2025, via the council’s verified platforms.

Initially, results were accessible through the WAEC Direct portal and via SMS. However, the unexpected disruption has left many students temporarily unable to check their results online.

WAEC reassured candidates that efforts are underway to restore the platform, and advised them to follow only its official social media channels for updates. It also warned against relying on unofficial websites or individuals claiming to offer alternative ways to access results.
