The Nigeria Police Force has defended its arrest of activist Omoyele Sowore, stating it was linked to credible allegations of forgery, cyberstalking, and other offenses.
In a statement on Friday, Force spokesperson DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said Sowore’s detention was lawful and in line with constitutional procedures.
He stressed that Sowore was granted bail within the 48-hour window required by law, as provided under Section 35(4) of the 1999 Constitution.
Adejobi also dismissed allegations of torture or rights violations, saying the arrest followed due process and respected the suspect’s rights. Investigations into the alleged offenses are still ongoing.
