Rivers APC Opposes August 30 LG Poll, Cites Voter Disenfranchisement, Court Ruling

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised strong objections to the planned August 30 local government elections, warning that the exercise may violate a Supreme Court ruling and disenfranchise eligible voters.

Party spokesperson Darlington Nwauju argued that conducting elections while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is still carrying out continuous voter registration undermines the rights of newly eligible voters.

“You can’t hold elections in the middle of voter registration. Many who just turned 18 will be unfairly excluded,” Nwauju said, accusing the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) of cherry-picking policies from the dissolved 6th commission headed by Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd).

This stance aligns with growing resistance from civil society groups, political figures, and a pending court case challenging the legality of the poll.
