APC’s Hassan Shado Wins Okura Constituency By-Election in Kogi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Hassan Shado, candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the Okura State Constituency by-election held on Saturday in Kogi State.

Announcing the results at the Egume Collation Centre, the Returning Officer, Prof. Emmanuel Onome, said Shado polled 55,073 votes, while his rivals from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) scored 1,038 and 445 votes respectively.

Despite the peaceful nature of the election, the process was marked by low voter turnout, a concern echoed by INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oliver Agundu, who acknowledged the smooth conduct but lamented the poor participation.

Some opposition parties have since expressed reservations about the credibility of the process.
