Garin-Faji Village in Sabon-Birni LGA of Sokoto State was thrown into mourning following a tragic boat accident that occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 22, 2025.
The mishap happened around 5:30 a.m. as dozens of passengers attempted to cross a local waterway. Eyewitnesses reported that the boat capsized mid-journey, plunging all occupants into the river.
According to Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), six bodies have been recovered, 19 passengers were rescued by local divers, while three remain missing.
Families of the victims continue to search the riverbanks in distress, as fear grows that the death toll may rise. The village remains in shock, with grief hanging heavily over the community.
