Abdul Adama Makes History with Silver at World Junior Swimming Championships

17-year-old Abdul Jabar Adama has become the first Nigerian swimmer to win a medal at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships, clinching silver in the men’s 50m butterfly in Romania.

Adama finished in 23.64 seconds, just behind Great Britain’s Dean Fearn (23.54s), while also breaking the national record twice in one day—first in the prelims (23.61s) and then again in the semis (23.48s).

His remarkable feat not only marks a milestone for Nigerian swimming but also positions him as a strong Olympic prospect for Los Angeles 2028.
