The Federal Government, through the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), has closed 22 illegal colleges of education across Nigeria.
This move followed a nationwide crackdown on unapproved institutions operating without accreditation. According to a document detailing the commission’s recent achievements, the NCCE also carried out personnel and financial audits in all 21 federal colleges of education.
President Bola Tinubu, during the 14th convocation of the National Open University of Nigeria, had earlier charged key regulatory agencies—NUC, NBTE, and NCCE—to eliminate illegal tertiary institutions and curb the rise of “certificate millers” threatening the integrity of Nigeria’s education system.
