The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed the successful evacuation of 618 individuals from the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) that derailed on Tuesday around KM 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations.
In a statement released in Lagos, NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, said the evacuated persons included 583 passengers, 15 NRC crew, 1 medical staff, 8 cleaners, and 11 catering personnel.
Seven passengers sustained injuries and were promptly taken to hospitals for treatment. A rescue train from Idu safely transported the remaining passengers back to Idu and Kubwa stations.
“All have since returned safely to their destinations,” Opeifa assured.
