Kano Govt Refutes ₦6.5bn Diversion Claim, Blames Opposition for Smear Tactics

The Kano State Government has denied allegations of a ₦6.5 billion diversion from the state treasury, calling the claims a politically motivated smear campaign aimed at discrediting Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration.

The denial comes amid reports that Abdullahi Rogo, Director General of Protocol at Government House, is involved in a financial misappropriation case currently before the High Court.

In a statement on Monday, Sanusi Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity, dismissed the accusations as baseless and orchestrated by opposition figures seeking relevance ahead of the 2027 elections.

“These claims are pure fiction, designed by political rivals who have turned to blackmail and propaganda,” he said.

Tofa added that Rogo does not control independent funds and operates strictly under budgetary approvals as part of an administrative unit.
