NLC Dissolves Edo Council over leadership crisis, appoints Caretaker Committee

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has dissolved its Edo State Council following the breakdown of reconciliation efforts between rival factions within the council.

In a statement released on Tuesday, NLC Acting General Secretary Benson Upah said the decision was taken in line with the union’s constitution after tensions escalated between elected chairman Odion Olaye and a faction allegedly supported by the Edo State Government.

Upah revealed that a caretaker committee has been constituted to oversee the council’s activities until fresh elections are held. He also accused the state government of seizing the keys to the NLC secretariat in Benin and issuing threats to caretaker committee members ahead of their planned inauguration on August 28, 2025.
