NRC suspends Abuja-Kaduna Train operations after derailment

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the immediate suspension of operations on the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor following a derailment incident on Monday.

Managing Director of the NRC, Kayode Opeifa, disclosed this to journalists in Abuja, noting that the suspension is to allow for a thorough investigation and repairs.

Opeifa confirmed that technical teams from the NRC, Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), and other relevant agencies are already at the site conducting investigations.

He also debunked claims that the trains were in poor condition and revealed that ticket refunds have been initiated for all affected passengers. While receiving some of the passengers at Asham and Idu train stations, he stated that six passengers sustained minor injuries and were promptly treated.

The total number of passengers on board is yet to be officially confirmed.
