Rivers conducts council elections across 23 LGAs, residents await results

Residents of Rivers State on Saturday participated in local government elections held across all 23 LGAs by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). Voting took place in 6,866 polling units within 319 wards, aiming to elect new chairpersons and councillors to replace appointed council administrators.

This election comes over six months after the Supreme Court nullified the previous October 2024 council polls. The exercise was reported to be peaceful in areas like Port Harcourt, Obio Akpor, and Abonnema.

RSIEC Chairman, Michael Odey, had assured residents of efficient logistics and timely delivery of materials, including to riverine communities. Results are now awaited.
