Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (Rtd.), the Administrator of Rivers State, has sworn in the newly elected chairmen of the 23 local government areas following the just-concluded council elections.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Government House shortly after the chairmen received their certificates of return from the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
RSIEC conducted the local government elections on Saturday across more than 6,000 polling units in the state. According to results announced by RSIEC Chairman, Dr. Michael Odey, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won 20 LGAs, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured only two.
APC also swept the councillorship seats in 20 councils, with PDP winning in three, marking the first time the APC has achieved majority control in Rivers State since 1999
