The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Legislative Council has reversed the impeachment of its Speaker, Hon. Matthew Yare, who represents Nyanya Ward under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Yare was impeached on Monday by eight All Progressives Congress (APC) councillors, led by Deputy Speaker Tony Onoja, citing neglect of council proceedings and disregard for established laws.
In his place, Hon. Jankaro Ibrahim, Councillor for Kabusa Ward and APC member, was briefly elected as Speaker.
However, during a press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja, Jankaro announced that the impeachment had been withdrawn in the interest of peace and unity within the council.
He added that the Speaker has been given a one-month ultimatum to improve his conduct, warning that a permanent action would follow if no change is observed.
