The Federal Government and the National Assembly have expressed full support for the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) plan to adopt Computer-Based Testing (CBT) starting in 2026.
Despite initial public skepticism, WAEC’s transition from traditional paper-based exams to CBT has gained momentum. Speaking at a stakeholders’ sensitisation meeting in Abuja, Minister of Education, Prof. Maruf Alausa, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernising student assessments nationwide.
He said the shift to CBT is aimed at curbing exam malpractice and preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s education system.
“Business as usual is no longer acceptable. Moving to CBT will not only help reduce cheating but also elevate the credibility of our exams globally,” Alausa noted.
WAEC’s CBT rollout will begin at designated centres across the country.
