Police summon El-Rufai, six ADC members over alleged criminal offences

The Kaduna State Police Command has issued a formal invitation to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and six senior members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for questioning over allegations including criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous harm.

This development comes amid rising political tension in the state involving the opposition party.

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Uzairu Abdullahi, the ADC State Chairman was instructed to present the seven individuals at the State CID on September 8, 2025, to respond to allegations outlined in a complaint filed by unnamed parties.

The individuals listed in the police correspondence include:

Nasir El-Rufai

Bashir Sa’idu

Jafaru Sani

Ubaidullah Mohammed (also known as “30”)

Nasiru Maikano

Aminu Abita

Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (also known as “Mikiya”)

The letter stated:
“This Department is currently investigating the above-mentioned case involving members of your party. You are requested to come along with them to SCID to clarify allegations reported against them by the complainants on 8th September, 2025.”

The police noted that the invitation is part of broader efforts to maintain public peace and order.

Earlier that same day, security personnel sealed off the ADC’s state secretariat, located at No. 4 Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, just hours before a scheduled visit from the party’s North-West leadership. The visit had been planned as a show of solidarity following a violent attack by suspected political thugs on ADC members the previous week.

During a press conference at his residence on September 4, El-Rufai sharply criticised the police action, describing it as a violation of constitutional rights. He explained that the North-West ADC leadership was visiting to commiserate with injured members and condemned what he described as politically motivated interference.

El-Rufai also stated that the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police claimed—without presenting any legal documents—that a court order prohibited the meeting.
