Carlos Alcaraz defeats Jannik Sinner to win U.S. open, claims 6th Grand Slam, World No. 1 spot

Carlos Alcaraz proved his dominance once again by defeating rival Jannik Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the 2025 U.S. Open final, securing his second title at Flushing Meadows and sixth Grand Slam trophy overall.

The win gives Alcaraz a 10-5 head-to-head lead over Sinner and reclaims the ATP World No. 1 ranking from the Italian, who was the defending U.S. Open champion.

This marked the third straight Grand Slam final contested between Alcaraz and Sinner this season — the first time in tennis history two men have met in three consecutive Slam finals in one year.

The match, played under a closed roof due to rain, saw Alcaraz bounce back from his Wimbledon loss to Sinner and reaffirm his position at the top of men’s tennis. Together, the two have now won eight consecutive majors, with only Novak Djokovic interrupting their dominance with three titles in the last 13 Grand Slams.

Also notable was former President Donald Trump’s presence in Arthur Ashe Stadium — the first sitting or former U.S. president to attend since Bill Clinton in 2000 — which caused a delay due to heightened security, and sparked mixed reactions from the crowd.

At just 22 years old, Alcaraz continues to lead the next generation, leaving no doubt that he and Sinner are setting a new standard in men’s tennis.
