The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a public health advisory following the outbreak of Ebola virus disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where 15 people have died, including four health workers, from 28 suspected cases reported as of September 4, 2025.
DRC Health Minister, Samuel Roger Kamba, confirmed the outbreak is centered in Kasai Province, particularly the Bulape and Mweka health zones, with symptoms including fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, and bleeding.
NCDC Director General, Dr. Jide Idris, reassured Nigerians that no cases have been detected in Nigeria, but emphasized that the country is on high alert. Surveillance has been intensified at points of entry, in healthcare facilities, and within communities.
Laboratory tests in Kinshasa confirmed the Ebola Zaire strain as the cause.
NCDC is urging the public to remain vigilant, report any symptoms, and follow hygiene protocols to prevent potential spread.
