The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has dismissed the reported expulsion of Abdulmumin Jibrin, who represents the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, declaring the action null and void.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the NNPP’s National Secretary, Oginni Sunday, described the expulsion as baseless and lacking any legitimate authority. He clarified that the announcement was made by Hashim Dungurawa, a former state chairman who, according to the party, had already been expelled and no longer holds any position within the NNPP.
Calling Dungurawa’s action “a joke taken too far,” Sunday questioned how someone with no standing in the party could claim to expel a sitting federal lawmaker.
Sunday cited a Federal Capital Territory High Court ruling from April 2, 2025, and a separate judgment from an Abia State High Court, both of which affirmed the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and others, including Dungurawa. As a result, he argued, they lack the legal right to speak or act on behalf of the NNPP.
He suggested that Jibrin’s refusal to align with Kwankwaso’s faction of the party—the Kwankwasiyya movement—led to attempts to undermine his influence.
Sunday also raised concerns about Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf’s loyalty to Kwankwaso, warning that it could jeopardize the NNPP’s ability to retain control of the state in the 2027 elections.
