The Department of State Services (DSS) has given activist Omoyele Sowore a one-week ultimatum to retract a social media post it described as false, malicious, and inciting against President Bola Tinubu.
In a letter dated September 7, the DSS accused Sowore of calling Tinubu a “criminal” in his August 26 post on X (formerly Twitter), adding that the statement could incite public unrest and threaten national security.
The DSS warned that failure to retract the post would force the agency to use “all lawful means” to maintain public order. The letter was signed by the DSS Director of Legal Services, Uwem Davies.
Sowore confirmed that X reached out to him over the DSS letter but refused to take down the post, maintaining his stance and defending it as free speech.
The development adds to ongoing tensions between the activist and Nigerian authorities
