The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has blamed parents for 80% of the infractions recorded during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
This was disclosed by Jake Epelle, Chairman of JAMB’s Special Committee on Examination Infractions, during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today. He said, “Eighty per cent of these infractions are caused by parents who want to give marks to their children that they don’t deserve.”
Epelle’s comments follow the committee’s damning report on rising examination fraud, which was earlier submitted to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede. The infractions include impersonation, AI-assisted cheating, fake disability claims, and credential forgery.
Despite the board’s investment in computer-based testing and biometric verification systems, JAMB says systemic malpractice persists—largely due to external influences, particularly from parents.
