JAMB panel uncovers 4,251 fingerprint manipulations, 190 AI cheats in 2025 UTME

The JAMB Special Committee on Examination Infractions (SCEI) has exposed massive tech-driven malpractices in the 2025 UTME, including 4,251 cases of fingerprint manipulation (“finger blending”) and 190+ instances of AI-assisted impersonation via image morphing.

Committee chair Jake Epelle reported these findings to JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, citing widespread complicity involving parents, tutorial centres, schools, and CBT operators. The team also uncovered:

  • 1,878 false disability claims
  • Multiple NIN registrations
  • Forged credentials
  • Collusion with exam syndicates

Epelle warned that malpractice is becoming dangerously normalised in Nigeria’s education system. The committee recommended:

  • AI-powered biometric tools
  • Real-time exam monitoring
  • A central Examination Security Operations Centre (ESOC)

Calls were also made for stronger legal frameworks to aid enforcement.
