The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has announced a nationwide ban on boat loading at unauthorized points as part of new safety measures to curb waterway accidents.
NIWA MD Bola Oyebamiji made the announcement in Abuja, stating that all commercial boats must now load only at registered NIWA-approved terminals.
He emphasized mandatory use of lifejackets, display of boat names and load lines, and the immediate removal of all unlicensed boats from Nigerian waterways.
