Six Arrested by Police Over ₦109.5 Million Gold Theft in Kebbi

Detectives from the Kebbi State Police Command have arrested six individuals in connection with the theft of gold ornaments worth over ₦109.5 million in Ka’oje town, located in Bagudo Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed that the arrests followed a complaint filed on September 4, 2025, at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi.

The high-profile case has drawn widespread attention across Kebbi State and beyond—both due to the staggering value of the stolen gold and the involvement of a serving officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Observers note that the incident underscores growing concerns about criminal infiltration within security agencies and highlights the urgent need for stronger institutional oversight.

According to the statement, investigations showed that between 2024 and 2025, unidentified individuals broke into the home of Hajiya Rabi in Ka’oje and stole five gold necklaces, nine bangles, and four rings, all weighing a total of 782.7 grams.

The stolen items belonged to her daughter, Hajiya Amina Hassan Bello, as well as other family members.

Based on intelligence reports, police operatives apprehended Ibrahim Abubakar, an officer with the Nigerian Correctional Service, who later confessed to committing the crime.
