Trump announces posthumous top US Civilian Honour for Charlie Kirk

Former President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was fatally shot on Wednesday, will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States.

Speaking at a Pentagon ceremony commemorating the September 11, 2001, attacks, Trump said, “I’m pleased to announce that I will soon be awarding Charlie Kirk, posthumously, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

Kirk, 31, was a prominent figure on the Republican right and widely credited with playing a key role in Trump’s successful return to the presidency. He was shot and killed while addressing a large audience at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
