The Ogun State Government has appointed 1,200 political assistants to serve as agents of change and promote civic engagement throughout the state.
In a statement released by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, in Abeokuta, the appointments were described as part of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to expanding democratic participation and ensuring broader access to the benefits of democracy.
Akinmade noted that the initiative is a deliberate strategy aimed at strengthening democratic governance throughout the state.
According to him, the assistants — five from each of the 236 wards in Ogun State — are expected to foster stronger local involvement in governance and help bridge the communication gap between the grassroots and the state government.
“These political assistants will play a key role in supporting the implementation of democratic benefits, identifying and presenting the needs of their communities, and relaying those needs to the government,” he said.
“They are also tasked with providing accurate two-way feedback between the government and the people.”
Akinmade further stated that the initiative is in line with Governor Abiodun’s campaign promise to ensure inclusive governance and engage every ward in the state’s developmental agenda.
The state government also encouraged the new appointees to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of their communities, local governments, and the state as a whole.
