The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated counterfeit malaria medications valued at over ₦1.2 billion in Lagos State.
In a statement released on Friday, the agency revealed that the fake drugs were intercepted in the Ilasa-Oshodi area of the state.
“NAFDAC intercepted 277 cartons of fake and unregistered Malamal Forte malaria drugs, with an estimated value exceeding ₦1.2 billion, stored in a warehouse located in Ilasa-Oshodi, Lagos,” the statement read.
The counterfeit medicines, according to NAFDAC, were smuggled into the country from Shanxi Tianyuan Pharmaceuticals Group in China. They were disguised as Diclofenac Potassium 50mg and falsely declared as spare parts in the shipping documents.
Following the seizure, NAFDAC Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to eradicating counterfeit and substandard medicines in Nigeria, with the continued backing of the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Health.
