Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), the Administrator of Rivers State, has officially initiated the transition process ahead of the state’s return to democratic governance. This comes six months after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state.
The transition will commence with an interdenominational thanksgiving service on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the Ecumenical Centre on Abonnema Wharf Road, Port Harcourt.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Lucky Worika, the service is expected to be attended by permanent secretaries, local government chairmen, security officials, traditional rulers, industry leaders, and other invited dignitaries.
Speaking on Friday after receiving the official report of the August 30 local government elections, Vice Admiral Ibas declared that the presidential mandate handed to him on March 18 had been successfully carried out.
