NHIA partners stakeholders to boost health insurance coverage in Ogun

The Ogun State Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) on Monday hosted a Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum in Abeokuta aimed at enhancing collaboration, increasing public awareness, and fast-tracking Nigeria’s journey towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The gathering brought together healthcare providers, civil society groups, community leaders, and enrollee advocates to assess current programmes and address challenges in implementation.

In his opening remarks, the NHIA State Coordinator, Mr. Adegboyega Adefeso, highlighted the importance of the forum in fostering synergy between the government and the people to expand access to affordable healthcare.

According to him, “The Authority is committed to ensuring no Nigerian is left behind in accessing quality and affordable healthcare. Our ongoing initiatives like Comprehensive Emergency Obstetrics Care and the Free Fistula Programme are key steps toward achieving Universal Health Coverage.”

Adefeso stressed that community engagement and strong partnerships are at the heart of NHIA’s approach.
“Health insurance requires collective effort. The more people we involve, the more resilient the system becomes, bringing us closer to a Nigeria where healthcare is not a financial burden,” he said.

A moving testimonial was shared by Mr. Gbenga Oriji, a beneficiary of the CEMOC programme, who narrated how the initiative helped save his family during a life-threatening emergency.
