The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has revealed that over 123 million Nigerians have now been captured in the country’s National Identity database.
This was disclosed by NIMC Director General/CEO, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, during the 7th National Day of Identity held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Key highlights:
- 52% of Nigerians in the diaspora have been enrolled.
- 85% of inmates in correctional centres are also captured.
- NIMC has over 200 enrolment centres nationwide and internationally.
- 125 government agencies and institutions have now harmonised their databases with NIMC.
Coker-Odusote stated that system upgrades have cut down enrolment time by 49% and eliminated cases of extortion. She also dismissed concerns about data compromise, assuring that NIMC maintains global-standard security protocols to safeguard citizens’ information.
